Do you have to follow a gluten or wheat free diet? Do not worry if you are travelling to Madeira.

Restaurants are now far more aware of dietary needs and the bigger supermarkets such as Pingo Doce and Continente carry a range of gluten-free products. Admittedly not as large as a supermarket in the UK but a good enough range for when you are on holiday.

If you are on Facebook there is a group called Gluten Free Madeira. You can find lots of useful info plus in the "files" section there are 3 useful documents you can download. You can find the group here:--

Another useful shop is Celerio which is on the opposite side of Rua do Aljube to the Sé cathedral. As well as being a health food store there is a selection of free from foods at the back of the store.

Unfortunately VitalGlu, the gluten-free bakers, who operated just outside of Camâra de Lobos stopped operating during the pandemic and it doesn't look like they are reopening.
