In a statement, ADN Madeira proposes that the maritime link between Madeira and the mainland be guaranteed year-round through an international tender.
To this end, it argues that the Region could cover up to 25% of the net annual public compensation required, while the Republic should ensure at least 75%—without prejudice to the State’s responsibilities regarding solidarity and territorial continuity.
The party holds the view that “territorial continuity between Madeira and the mainland cannot be treated as an exclusively regional responsibility. Madeira must contribute to the effort, but the Republic bears a national responsibility that cannot be set aside.”
“Madeira is willing to shoulder its share, but it cannot bear the cost of territorial continuity alone. We propose a regional contribution of up to 25% and at least 75% from the Republic, along with clear safeguards to ensure that the ferry service does not divert resources from the Region that are needed for other public services,” states ADN coordinator Maíza Fernandes.
