Six members of the Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol Mixed Fire Brigade are currently fighting a fire that broke out in a scrubland area in Serra de Água.
The flames spreading across the hillside have frightened residents.
The fire is being fought with the support of a heavy fire-fighting vehicle.
The Regional Civil Protection Service helicopter may be called to the scene.
