16 new police vehicles were delivered to the Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), within the scope of the Collaboration protocol with the Regional Government.

“Based on operational needs, the Madeira Regional Command carried out a survey of the needs and characteristics of the vehicles to be used by the Public Security Police police in Madeira, having communicated to the Regional Government”, according to a press release.

Having completed the due tender procedures, and having carried out the required transformations and adaptations to the police function, the delivery of two batches of vehicles has now been made, relating to the acquisition of 12 characterized patrol vehicles and four uncharacterized vehicles, which will be immediately allocated to the various PSP subunits in the Region, replacing some vehicles that will be scrapped and allowing a slight increase and renewal of the police vehicle fleet serving the community.

“The Madeira Regional Command of the PSP thanks the Regional Government, the Regional Finance Secretariat and the Regional Directorate of Heritage for all the collaboration that has been provided within the scope of the existing protocol and which has allowed the Public Security Police in the Autonomous Region of Madeira has better resources and more response capacity, so that we can provide a more efficient service for the safety and tranquility of Madeirans and all citizens who visit the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo”, he concludes.

Monte tree fall defendants acquitted

Following on from the previous post, the Madeira District Court, Central Criminal Instance, today acquitted the two defendants who were tried because of the Monte tragedy.

The former vice-president of the Funchal Chamber, Idalina Perestrelo and the head of the municipality’s green spaces division, Francisco Andrade, were acquitted.

The two defendants were acquitted of committing 13 crimes of negligent homicide and 24 crimes of harm to physical integrity, also due to negligence.
