More corruption in Portuguese politics? 1

Pedro Nuno Santos, the national leader of the PS, (Socialist Party – not the same as PSD-M – Social Democrats – which is home to Albuquerque and Calado), acquired a property near Montemor-o-Novo, in Alentejo, for 506 thousand euros, in 2022.

But the news, published today in Correio da Manhã, is not focused on the value of the house, instead highlighting the amount that Pedro Nuno Santos pays in IMI, which was set at 143 euros for years.

Tax asset value resulting from the fact that the residence was valued by the tax authorities at €47,770.

  1. Well at least isn’t gone yet under the carpet and ignored like in UK. It will be the end of the old dinosaurs politicians and lets hope that opens a new era of better ones

    • Isabel, as much as I’d like to say your wrong about the UK and you’re not, if all the rumours and comments about Madeiran politics and palm greasing over the years has a grain of truth then a lot has been swept under the tapestry for many years.

  2. Between Noise and action is the opportunity for thought. Let us see what evidence is presented and what the courts decide. Trial by media is seldom just.

Regurgitated rumour is no basis for a considered opinion

  3. Agree, John and never heard this saying but fits a lot of current responses.
As I keep aligning too, being honest and well intentioned isn’t generally the best requirements to run a government, it could be disastrous for Madeira, if the only option is someone completely inexperienced steps in, not advocating it best for corrupted people to carry on,just stating there are other areas of the world to learn from. If all is to be believed here, its astounding that it should have been so wide spread and never been officially investigated before, maybe why this seek and search hasnt been implemented by Madeira but has been instigated from mainland Portugal, one might wonder!!
