Nuns Valley Cable Car contract awarded

Nuns Valley

The news that makes the headline in the Diario this morning reveals that the concession contract for the private use of the work at the Nuns Valley, which includes the controversial construction of a cable car system, adventure park and ‘zip line’, lasts for 50 years, with renewal for another 10.

The Diario also reports that the Madeira Ship Register has now surpassed that of Cyprus. MAR grew 56% in four years and now enters the European ‘top 3’ shipping registers.

Both local papers report on the waves during the bad weather dragging the fish farm cages to the coast in Ribeira Brava. JM reports that yesterday morning, several fishermen were trying to take advantage of the damage to cages in Ribeira Brava when local “fishermen” were spotted with a buckets full of sea bream.

A new, vastly improved “search” facility has been introduced allowing readers to search (box in the sidebar above) on any word or phrase used in any of the posts over the last sixteen years. Previously the search facility only returned matches on headings rather than the entire content. It remains to be seen whether this will slow the blog down – fingers crossed! If it works it should move the blog even further ahead of the increasing number of imitators, providing a huge resource for visitors and residents.
