MPs fight new drug laws

Tax revenues up

Drug law headline in JM

Drugs are a subject that makes headlines in JM today. 23 PSD deputies in the Lisbon parliament have proclaimed the unconstitutionality of the new drug law and will request successive inspections of the changes approved by the socialist government. Local MP Sara Madruga is part of the protesting group and tells the newspaper that she believes the court will stop an “aberration” that favours drug traffickers.

Tax revenues up

The Region’s tax revenues have increased by 21.9 per cent until the end of August. Rogério Gouveia, head of Finance, explains that growth is based on tax revenues and the “historic maximum of the active population”.

Ribeira Brava fires

JM also associates the recent hot weather with the fires that continue to devastate the mountains above Ribeira Brava.

The fire in Ribeira da Tabua, in Ribeira Brava, is still active, but “with much less intensity”, according to the commander of the Mixed Firefighters of Ribeira Brava and Ponta de Sol. As well as their resources, the fight against the flames is also being carried out by the helitransported team and the Civil Protection helicopter.

A new, vastly improved “search” facility has been introduced allowing readers to search (box in the sidebar above) on any word or phrase used in any of the posts over the last sixteen years. Previously the search facility only returned matches on headings rather than the entire content. It remains to be seen whether this will slow the blog down – fingers crossed! If it works it should move the blog even further ahead of the increasing number of imitators, providing a huge resource for visitors and residents.

    • If you did read the local newspapers you will discover that the Health Madeira Services made a study about who is the people that consume this drugs and most of them are men between ages 30 and 40 most of them are unemployed and homeless and with other health problems . And in the future stop implying that it is the full island like that like many times you do and no one around where is denying that there isn’t a problem but there isn’t need to talk over and over again about the same thing .

I am telling it as it is i.IT IS A COMPLETE JOKE WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE GIVEN AT LEAST THE INFORMATION GIVEN BY THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION EDUCATION IS CORRECT AND RIGHT SINCE THEY HAVE ALL INFORMATION ABOUT THE STUDENTS THAT START AND FINISH THE YEAR ,AND MORE ALSO APPLY TO THE RECENT STUDY MADE BY THE HEATH SERVICE THAT THE PEOPLE CONSUME ARE MORE MEN BETWEEN THAT AGES GROUP.

YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO SHOW HAVE NEITHER ANY FACTS EVIDENCE AT ALL WORSE THAN TRUMP AT LEAST HE DID MANAGE TO FAKE SOME DOCUMENTS YOU NEITHER CAN SHOW ANYTHING AND MAKING A FIGURE OF A COMPLETE FULL WITHOUT EXPLAINING ANYTHING .

  1. Then explain why the percentage of teenagers finishing the Secondary School is getting higher and going to Professional Courses and University ? Explain how they can finish school with such a high percentage . You most thinking about your own country the UK and the famous country lines that are destroying the so many teenagers school lives your fought apply to that .And neither you know anything James you don’t go there like I do or even read the local newspapers or even see the local news instead you should be talking about the work the that the local authorities been doing in schools and universities and professional schools was prevention and information against rugs . But it seems you don’t know anything again. The only thing you like to do is make assumptions and conclusions without presenting any evidence or even facts .What is even more wrong from it is you implying that all the teenagers are consuming and dealing with drugs when it is a small percentage .And no one is around where denying anything there is problems but not you like trying to imply and exaggerate and that is complete out of control and the authorities not doing anything and for your information or lack of information that seems from you that study was a recent made this year .

    • You are correct but practically, because of the lack of any action by the Police, possession is not acted on, the situation is the same, I think worse. We make the laws then ignore them. Our drug takers are not just the alcoholics and homeless but the middle class, most who have children who are influenced by them. Like the scourge of the scooter, illegal but openly ridden, bought by the parent knowing this and ignored by the Police. If you want to get rid of the drug menace then you have to remove the customer, do this by making possession illegal, publishing all cases of possession, swingeing fines, for first time offenders, then custodial sentences.

    • Hello I cant care less what country you are or even what race you are what I care is when you starting making assumptions and conclusions with your wild theories about this topic get informed before making statements . And more if you did make a effort to read the local newspapers and see the local news then you can make a valid comment without making wild theories without any evidence like you like to make and others .

  2. Supporting someone that can’t show any evidence or even add anything to show to support his comments and he neither can’t explain anything shows how ridiculous people are . Let’s hope someone does makes the same type of statements about is own country whatever where it is then he will be changing is tune .
