Fewer calls on lifeguards makes the news

The Diario headlines this morning that the number of interventions by lifeguards fell by 26% this bathing season, compared to the summer of 2022, going from a daily average of 8.9 to 6.6, according to data from sea rescue organisation SANAS, responsible for the lifeguards in the archipelago.

As conclusive proof that you cannot escape coverage of the elections at the moment, the newspaper adds “Still on the topic of Summer, know that good weather is forecast for election Sunday”.

Ultra-luxury yacht visits

Today, the Port of Funchal welcomes a very special visitor. This is the ‘Seabourn Pursuit‘, Seabourn’s second ultra-luxury expedition ship, which is making its maiden voyage.

The ‘Seabourn Pursuit’ departed from La Valleta, in Malta, on August 12, beginning the eight-day cruise that disembarks in Rome, Italy.

According to the APRAM website , the ship should be expected in the Madeiran capital at 8:00 am, where it will remain until 6:00 pm.

Although the first months of this brand new ship’s itinerary will include more traditional destinations, such as the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, it is scheduled to explore from the Amazon to Antarctica, where it will operate between November and March 2024.

A new, vastly improved “search” facility has been introduced allowing readers to search (box in the sidebar above) on any word or phrase used in any of the posts over the last sixteen years. Previously the search facility only returned matches on headings rather than the entire content. It remains to be seen whether this will slow the blog down – fingers crossed! If it works it should move the blog even further ahead of the increasing number of imitators, providing a huge resource for visitors and residents.
