The Diario today leads with the Region calling for reinforcement of the Espada quota. With Espada catches at 72%, the government claims that there are no overfishing violations in Madeira to convince Brussels to allow another 241 tons by the end of the year.

  1. As a deep water fish the growth of espada is slower than other popular sea creatures and is prone to overfishing. Any increase in their quotas may not be a good decision long-term.
