Albuquerque coalition continues

Negotiations last all day

Albuquerque coalition continues, together with
Rui Barreto

Miguel Albuquerque had promised a quick understanding with one of the candidates to form an absolute majority government to work with his coaltion. And this agreement is practically closed with the People-Animals-Nature party, PAN.

JM knows that negotiations between regional party leaders dominated the entire day today. The PAN is willing to make the government viable with a parliamentary advocacy agreement, giving up seats in the Albuquerque executive.

The agreement between both candidacies should be made official today.

Earlier yesterday, the number two in the PSD/CDS-PP coalition, Rui Barreto, said that he is not closing the door on a governance agreement with the PAN and the Liberal Initiative (IL) because both (each with one parliamentarian) are “relatively close ideologically.”

“We do not reveal preferences in a situation where there are two parties that are relatively close to what we ideologically represent,” said Rui Barreto to the Lusa agency.

The centrist said that, in the case of IL, the “CDS has always had liberals and conservatives in its ideological spectrum” and the PAN also “is a humanist party, it is a party with a set of concerns” that do not conflict with the that the CDS represents.

The previous coalition will govern without a parliamentary majority,

“We are not closing the door on one or the other, or one and the other”, reinforced the number two in the PSD/CDS-PP coalition, noting that the governance agreement is still open, and could be with one of these two parties or with both, in order to allow the PSD/CDS-PP coalition to govern with a parliamentary majority, as it won the regional legislative elections in Madeira, but without an absolute majority.

To Lusa, Rui Barreto argued that “the most important thing is to guarantee a framework of stability”, in which the ideal solution is an agreement for the four-year period of the legislature.

“Circumstances have changed, we have adapted to the circumstances and I am pleased that there is, in fact, the possibility of convergence within a governing framework of a coalition of governance and stability, and that is what I hope will be found”

The coalition formed by PSD and CDS-PP won the regional legislative elections in Madeira on Sunday, with 43.13% of the votes, but without managing to obtain an absolute majority, electing 23 of the 47 deputies.

A new, vastly improved “search” facility has been introduced allowing readers to search (box in the sidebar above) on any word or phrase used in any of the posts over the last sixteen years. Previously the search facility only returned matches on headings rather than the entire content. It remains to be seen whether this will slow the blog down – fingers crossed! If it works it should move the blog even further ahead of the increasing number of imitators, providing a huge resource for visitors and residents.
