JM reports online that thermometers in Funchal reached 37.9 degrees this Tuesday afternoon, June 27, breaking the new record, established just yesterday, for the highest temperature ever recorded in June.

It should be remembered that this is the second consecutive day on which this record has been beaten, and this Monday the thermometers ‘scalded’ up to 37.4 degrees.

The south coast of the island of Madeira is currently under a red warning due to hot weather, according to the Portuguese Weather Institute, IPMA. The red warning remains until 20:00 today, changing to orange and, at 20:00 tomorrow, to yellow.
