JM headlines this morning that the offer of air frequencies to Madeira this summer, according to International Air Transport Association (IATA), has increased by almost 40% compared to the pre-pandemic period, according to Tourism Secretary Eduardo Jesus talking to the newspaper. 

Between March and October, the number of places exceeds 1.6 million, 500 thousand more than in 2019, a record that accompanies the “best 1st quarter ever” in the tourism sector.

In terms of the overall growth in tourism, ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal has already confirmed in January that 2022 was a record year for airports in the Region. For the first time, more than 4 million passengers disembarked and embarked at Madeira and Porto Santo Airports.

Tourist injured on Porto Santo ferry

A tourist in her 60s who was on board the Lobo Marinho was the victim of a fall, having called the local fire brigade to the port of Porto Santo for an emergency.

According to JM, following the fall, the passenger was left with a wound on her scalp, so, at 9:50 am, the Porto Santo Volunteer Firefighters received the alert to travel to the port of on the Golden Island as soon as the ferry arrived (normally around 10:30).

After disembarking the victim, she was transported to the local health unit on Porto Santo to receive medical assistance.
