Bad start to the year in the mountains

JM headlines that the first quarter of this year was the most eventful in memory for accidents in the mountains. The Civil Protection of Madeira recorded 44 accidents on levadas and trails, resulting in 46 injuries. 

More than half of the occurrences were in the municipalities of Machico and Santana. The helicopter performed four missions and undertook six rescues.

Summer’s day forecast

The Diario reports that the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts for this Wednesday, April 26, in Madeira, a day of good weather, reminiscent of summer. 

The sky should be clear, with few clouds, and the wind blowing light to moderate (10 to 25 km/h) from the east.

Temperatures will vary between 17 and 23ºC in Funchal and 16 and 23ºC in Porto Santo. The archipelago currently presents a risk of exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV).
