Star Wars heads for Porto Moniz
The Diario headlines that the annual tourist tax revenue of half a million euros that entered, in 2022, into the coffers of the Municipality of Santa Cruz (the only municipality of eleven in the Region to charge a tourist tax), was the second highest since the ecotax was created, in 2016.

The biggest graphic highlight of the first page goes to the recordings of ‘Star Wars’, which start on Thursday according to the Diario – although there were reports of filming in Caniçal and Quinta do Lorde yesterday. Filming, according to JM, was planned for various points of the island, both north and south, with a focus on Caniçal, Fanal, Ribeira da Janela and Porto Moniz.
Production teams have built sets in the pools of Porto Moniz, paid establishments in the north of the island to remain closed and livestock breeders to remove animals from Fanal.
“Manic Monday” sees another 11,555 cruise ship visitors
Following on from the post yesterday about “Manic Monday” drawing to a close for this season, the Port of Funchal receives three regular cruise ships visitors yesterday, specifically the ‘AIDAnova’, the ‘Azura’ and the ‘Azamara Onward’, which brought a total of 11,529 people, including passengers and crew.
