Judges denounce abuses by “people with power”
JM headlines that in the short period since January of this year, 1,144 Madeiran children and young people have stopped receiving family allowances. The measure results from the periodic assessment made by the Social Security Institute of Madeira of family income. Despite the reduction, there are over 26,000 citizens who benefit from family allowances.

Judges denounce abuses by “people with power”. The criticism was accepted yesterday by the Union Association of Judges president at the end of the congress that took place in Funchal. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was present and recognized a unique opportunity to review Justice in Portugal.

More and more single-parent families
Today is Father’s Day and JM announces that in the Region there are 2,324 fathers who live alone with their children. There are more and more single-parent families – presumably some of whom receive the family allowances above – but there are also other indications to be removed on this day, such as that in 2021 Madeira had 15 young people who became parents before the age of 20 and nine who were after the age of 55.
More European funds, Maritimo …..
The newspaper reports that European funds will be reinforced and Madeira will receive another 1,334 million euros until 2027 for investments in the most diverse areas.
