The Diario headlines that the Animal Ombudsman is filing a complaint against the Government. João Henriques de Freitas does not agree with the method used to eliminate cats in Areeiro. He participated in the Order of Veterinarians and is considering going to court. 

The Provedor do Animal, or Animal Ombudsman, main function is to ensure the defence of the welfare and protection of animals, as well as to promote, ensure and monitor the pursuit of their rights and interests, by itself, or whenever necessary with recourse to various regional bodies.

Landslide in Fajã das Galinhas

The main photo refers to another landslide in Fajã das Galinhas, in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, which injured three people, destroyed cars and forced the relocation of two families. There have been ravines for ten years and “nobody sleeps well for fear of losing their lives at any moment”, says a resident. Cleaning will take a week.

President of the Republic visits

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, begins his 13th visit to the Region today, where he will stay for around 24 hours, leaving late Saturday afternoon.

After not having visited Madeira or Porto Santo last year, Marcelo arrives today at the end of the day, aboard a Portuguese Air Force plane. 

Although the main reason for his visit was to participate in the closing ceremony of the XII Congress of Portuguese Judges, the President will take advantage of his stay in the Region to also meet, tonight, with the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, at a dinner which will take place at Quinta Vigia, at 8 pm.
