177,000 sign petition to stop Johnson from giving his father a knighthood

Yesterday morning, The Independent launched a petition calling for Rishi Sunak to block Boris Johnson’s plans to grant his father an honour. Within eight hours, more than 100,000 people had backed the petition. As of 10:00 this morning the figure stood at 177,000. At 200,000 signatures, this petition becomes one of the top signed on Change.org!

The former prime minister put his father Stanley forward as part of his resignation honours list, having previously gifted his brother, Jo Johnson, a life peerage as Baron Johnson of Marylebone.

Mr Johnson’s plan has been dubbed “completely outrageous” by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, with former Brexit secretary David Davis also calling it a “ridiculous” and “corrosive” move. Senior Conservatives have told The Independent that Boris Johnson’s ‘corrosive’ plans endanger the system.

Update 9.3.23: the petition has now (08:30) been signed by 215,000 people

  2. Is anyone actually surprised? Don’t forget he got Williamson a knighthood! Can’t sink much lower than that – well maybe Nadine Dorries!!

This man has no scruples and never has had.
