Call for free pet sterilizations
The main photo refers to more calls for free sterilizations for owned animals. Joäo Henriques de Freitas warns that there is a lack of agreement between associations and municipalities and that he received more requests for help in 2022. He was appointed as Animal Ombudsman by the Legislative Assembly of Madeira in 2021. The lawyer is known to be a great animal cause enthusiast.

COVID-19 in Madeira: updates can be found in an earlier post
All the incidental news from Madeira – up to 60 reports per day – is being picked up automatically, translated, and posted on our sister website, madeiraislandnews, no matter how trivial:
How about sterilizing drunk drivers too?
You should put in the top of that list Boris .
The more pet sterilisation the better – fewer barking dog!
I’d rather sterilize the owners who lock their so called pets on the balcony.
Agreed George. We always notice them when visiting Madeira – and much of the Med as well. It must be dreadful when you have a barking dog on a balcony next door all day.
Then welcome to Portugal at least when I did lived in UK the dogs are more civilized then where . The street that I live in the centre of Sintra is acul-de-sac that is only houses and a quinta and gardens and there is one owner that never take is dogs out and like to use them was a away of intimidation for people not walk in the pavement and oblige people to walk in the road . And this owner of a house called Girasol that thinks that the street is a extension of is garden and did leave is gate open for is dogs walk free in the street and in particular this dogs did like to bite . After a few complains to the police the owner understood the message and now the street is more peaceful .
Perhaps pay the same attention for drugs & robberies…?
Then then the UK should be paying more attention to the corruption instead brushing under the carpet . What did happen to the the 40 hospitals that been supposed being built ? Did become a mirage and a dream ?
The drugs and robberies are getting out of control now unfortunately on this little island of Madeira
… Mick It’s only Your comments that are already out of control … + Robberies? what are you on about ?? …
Well it seems that their is a complete generalization of this out of control drugs and robberies implying that the full island is complete out of control when isn’t . If some people around where did read and see the local Madeira news the present government did create a task team to resolve the problem . And also been some enlightenment programs in schools about this despite people saying around where that nothing been done . Also Madeira government did inaugurated houses for the homeless and problems with drugs to get in programs of rehabilitation and eventually return to society . And if people around where think that Madeira is so bad then they need to return back to their country to the county lines and enjoy them
Again some people neither they are happy that a least the Madeira government is trying to do something about the crime and drugs . IS the the UK government doing anything to resolve the crime and drugs problems at all ? And the famous county lines that are destroying communities anything been done by the UK government to resolve this ? Well some people around where they should be grateful and happy that Madeira still is a safe place to live instead of complaining if not happy move out .
Why are you so concerned about the UK when you don’t even live here?
Ken, Isabel seems to be under the impression that Boris is still the PM 😂😂
On July 1, 2001, Portugal became the first country in the world to decriminalize all drugs, including meth and heroin. The law made drug possession for personal use legally prohibited, while drug trafficking remains a criminal offense.
I struggle to understand the term legally prohibited.
