The Diario reports that the Port of Funchal with the movement of three ships and a sailboat this Thursday, December 8th, and a total of more than 4,300 people, between passengers and crew.

The Marella Explorer arrived in Funchal in the morning. Coming from La Gomera, she carried 1,843 passengers and 781 crew. She stayed in Madeira from 1:00 pm, leaving at 9:00 pm for Lanzarote.

Coming from Southampton, the Spirit of Discovery brought 798 passengers and 494 crew on board. After having made a 16-hour stopover at the port of Funchal, she heads to La Palma.

With 170 passengers and 222 crew on board, Club Med 2 makes a transatlantic journey. She arrived the previous afternoon in Madeira, coming from Lisbon. She travelled on at 8:00 pm to Guadeloupe, in the Caribbean, after a 29-hour stopover. Rather unusual in appearance, being half cruise ship and half sailboat, Club Med 2 is described as “a five-masted computer-controlled staysail schooner” owned and operated by Club Med. It combines the power of seven computer-operated sails with more traditional diesel-electric power, having four diesel generators that power two electric motors

In the port of Funchal, there was also the tall ship Christian Radich, a sailboat that in winter is also a training ship. This morning it is alone in port after the three ships departed. It came on Wednesday from La Palma, with 56 crew members, and will stay in the port of Funchal for 72 hours, sailing Saturday, at 9 am, to Las Palmas.
