The Diario reports on the Madeira Wine Rally – ” a show guaranteed for three days” and confirms that 60 cars will participate in the competition that starts today, with qualifying taking place this morning in Água de Pena.

The 63rd edition of the Madeira Wine Rally, again organized by Club Sports da Madeira, is included in the FIA European Rally Trophy and national and regional championships of the
modality, which takes place over three days, from today to Saturday and mobilizes the entire Region.

The first day includes Qualifying and Shakedown and, at the end of the afternoon, the first qualifier, the super special on Avenida do Mar, which returns to the program after the pandemic.

The remaining first stage will be played tomorrow with eight special events, a double round by Golf Course, more extensive and ending in Referta, Palheiro Ferreiro, a timed section that again includes the passage in Chäo da Lagoa, Boaventura and Cidade de Santana.

The second and final stage of the Madeira Wine Rally takes place on Saturday with eight more timed sections, a double passage through Cåmara de Lobos, Ponta do Sol, Ponta do Pargo and Rosårio.

In terms of sports, the race promises a lot of emotion with a list of 60 entries – as competitor no. 53 did not attend the technical checks guided by the great quality of the vehicles and bringing together many big names in this sport. The Italian Simone Campedelli and the Spaniards Alejandro Cachon and Emma Falcon join the pilots who usually compete for the top positions in the Portuguese championship of the specialty.

    • Closing roads around the old town by 10pm and stopping buses and taxi from operating in the central zone at this time hisn’t helping bars or restaurants rebuild trade after the pandemic or helping tourists get home to hotels or holiday hones after an evening out!!!

  1. I walked into Funchal & traffic was stationary from the Lido down to Funchal a lot of people not happy… the Rally Cars in Funchal were just revving engines to see who could make the most noise with what seemed to be a day out for a few “midlife crisis” macho men causing immense disruption…?
