12-year-old run over in rally car accident

Serious accident in the Madeira Wine Rally

The Madeira News website, with its automated 24/7 news feed has picked up several reports that a 12-year-old child was seriously run over by a rally car in an accident in Encumeada. She suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest but was revived by an EMIR emergency response team that was positioned nearby together with the Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz, according to the AgoraMadeira report.

The girl will be transported to the hospital. The child apparently crossed the road when Paulo Nobreza was in competition.

An emergency corridor was opened for transport to the hospital. There is a lot of consternation in the place from family members to pilots.

Later this afternoon the Diario reported that the organisers of the Madeira Wine Rally have issued a statement stating that it is waiting for the clinical developments of the 12-year-old girl, who was run over this afternoon during the last stage, in Rosário.

  1. Nothing surprises me, after witnessing this afternoon in Lugar de Baixo, a rally car obviously running late to a start his start location, overtaking over 12 cars on a white line, & going through a pedestrian red light, the crossing of Frango da Guia Restaurante, this carless driver could have easily killed a few pedestrians if they were not alerted to the entire commotion. More policing & better rules are needed.
