There is an active fire at this moment – ​​8:00 am this Monday – at the Malhadinha site, in Canhas, Ponta do Sol, a forested area marked by many eucalyptus trees.

The alert took place a little while ago, at 7:00 am, and there are already six members of the Volunteer Firefighters of Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol with two vehicles – one heavy and one light.

The Regional Civil Protection Service helicopter has also been activated and is heading to the scene shortly, flying over Funchal an hour ago.

Mountains under orange warning

Separately, JM reports that the mountainous regions of the island of Madeira are now under orange warning due to the persistence of high values ​​of maximum temperature, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The warning will be in effect until 18:00 today due to hot weather, then it will change to yellow until 18:00 on Tuesday.

The orange warning indicates a moderate to high risk meteorological situation and the yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
