JM reports that the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, visits this Saturday, May 14, at 10:00 am, the restoration works of the Passada irrigation reservoir, at the Ginjas site, in São Vicente.

“The contract is an integral part of the intervention project in 14 reservoirs in the Region – seven in the municipality of São Vicente, six in Santana and one in Machico -, representing a global investment of around €550,000, 85% co-financed by EU funds through the PRODERAM initiative and 15% by the Regional Government”, reads a press release, in which it is noted that “of these, 11 have already recovered”.

The intervention in the Passada reservoir, as well as the intervention in one of the reservoirs in the municipality of Santana and in Machico, will be completed within a few months, explained in the aforementioned statement, which also states that “the interventions already completed or in progress have involved the dismantling of degraded reservoirs, recovery of the foundation and installation of new reservoirs, as well as flow monitoring equipment”.

Overall, the intervention project benefits 1,204 irrigation systems and an agricultural area of ​​170 hectares, and the interventions improve the storage conditions and supply of water to irrigation systems and reinforce the security of infrastructure.

  1. I wonder if the situation with reservoirs on mainland Portugal has improved? The last I saw was that due to low rainfall in recent times that they were all very low on water which is a worrying situation there as summer approaches and forest fires can break out.
