Festivities last all month
The JM website this morning reports that Funchal City Council, through their Environment department, has announced that they are making Flower Festival preparations. The city’s streets are undergoing cleaning work, anticipating the increase in urban waste that will be produced with the festivities of the Flower Festival.
According to a very detailed press release, in all, 65 workers will be involved, 6 open-box vehicles, 2 minicars and 3 sweepers for cleaning the city, particularly after the procession next Sunday.
In this period of festivities, which lasts until May 29, there will also be the reinforcement of 75 containers for the disposal of waste: 38 for the allegorical procession, 28 to support the Mercadinho da Festa da Flor, on Avenida Arriaga, and 9 more containers at the Flower Festival Regional Exhibition, which will be on display at Praça do Povo.
The councillor for the Environment, Nádia Coelho, asked for the collaboration of the population and calls for responsible behaviour during the Flower Festival, because, she maintains, “only with everyone’s collaboration, will we be able to keep the city always clean, giving a good image of one of the most important tourist posters in our Region”.
