  1. … I’ve never read anything saying the Earthquakes cause rock falls? or anything suggesting there have been “more”? rock falls (lately) ,, as far as I know rock falls happen mainly after or during sustained rain which can cause erosion in the soil and rocks …

    • You need earthquakes in the order of 5 or 6 to cause rockfalls with the epicenter on the centre of island which has happened like once in the pash 500 years? Russel is not wrong, if you have a degree in geology and take a detailed picture of Madeira, all rockfall and landslide events are driven from environmental based erosion like rain, wind, waves…

    • I wasn’t aware that civil engineers were also fully paid up geologists/seismologists?

Harry, you should already know that this is not the towering inferno… next you will be saying that a fully fuelled commercial aircraft impact and explosion can melt steel RSJ’s

The lack of devil eyed browsers has been the cause of said landslides, Madeira is on a path to looking like Porto Santo

Anyway, what the hell do I know?

      • Good to see you are back Joe.
After enlightening us about how peacefull Ukraine is, could you please elaborate on an other subject:

In your comment about the pope’s visit to Portugal, you mentioned that the pope should visit Madeira, QUOTE “the first place where aliens made contact with earthlings” UNQUOTE.

        Please please tell us more.

        • So…. Mr Hardy

Jumping to the defence of Mr Johnston are we?
Please refer to my original post in regards to the Pope for clarification

In regards to the Ukraine, where are the weapons of mass destruction?
Is it true that Russian armed forces shut down 40+ bio labs in the Ukraine bankrolled by the the US?

Your spoof contacts would surely have filled in you in at this point, no?
Unfortunately, the evil minority always control the majority as they exist without empathy

Have you had all your shots yet?

        • The island has survey points all over it, just look down when walking about, they are the dots with a circle around, not very big and usually on the kerb lines, and all over island, these are there for regular monitoring.
Our own home in livermento has been affected over past few years and a few months ago around 4am was shook about so badly, all the doors were rattling in there frames.
I spent time in Japan and this was almost a daily occurrence. If it shakes up your house, its coming through the ground!!!
But, what do I know? I know logic!

      • Joe to answer you
The collapse of building in a fire, when steel RSJs or Universal Beams are affected is caused through sideways deflection once they reach a certain temperature they deflect sideways and collapse down, bringing floors, walls and roof with it.( awaiting its melting point is long past, this point)
If I was a fire fighter, I’d sooner go into a burning building constructed with load bearing timber baulk’s than steel RSJs or UBs Or better still, stay out of both, but when bringing people out, its not the choice, they have.

    • … I guess they have been ? Not sure how that makes you qualified to know that Earthquakes cause more rock falls on Madeira, or your (wild guess/claim) that Madeira has been experiencing more Earthquakes, without saying how many, and compared to when?? ,, but I suppose my reply gave you the opportunity to as usual come back with one of your Aloof personal Boasts …
