Closing time to be tightened

JM leads with a headline that the Old Town is to close at 1:00 am.
The Mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado admits to JM that there are illegal situations in the Zona Velha and the use of ambiguous regulations. The mayor of Funchal recalls that restaurants only work until one in the morning and promises to end the dance venues that remain open beyond that time. The change is planned soon.
Adjacent to the Old Town/Zona Velha it was also announced yesterday that a contract had been awarded by the Regional Government Council for the renovation of Forte de São Filipe and Largo do Pelourinho (below). This area, at the junction of the Santa Luzia and João Gomes rivers, did receive some attention a few years ago but has always appeared a little neglected.
The “Rehabilitation and Requalification” contract was awarded at a cost of €3.6 million with a term of one year and will be carried out by construction company Socicorreia.

According to information provided by the Regional Government after yesterday’s meeting, the extension of the Operational Plan to Combat Forest Fires, from 2021 until the end of April this year, was also formally approved.
COVID-19 in Madeira: updates can be found in an earlier post
The Forte de São Filipe looked like a giant ashtray last time I looked down into it. Thousands of fag ends and other litter scattered about.
Bravo smashing the local economy to pieces what’s left of it ? Do these idiots make these rules as they go along?
