Expresso reports that on Friday, the President of the Republic had already said that he was following the seismovolcanic crisis on the Azorean island of São Jorge, where he planned to travel soon.

The President of the Government of the Azores confirmed today that the President of the Republic will travel on Sunday to the island of São Jorge, where there has been a seismic crisis since March 19.

After the daily briefing of the regional and local authorities, José Manuel Bolieiro said that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa should arrive on the island of the Central Group of the Azores around 15:30 (16:30 from Lisbon), “to give a clear sign of the proximity and of solidarity”.

On Friday, the President of the Republic said that he was following the seismovolcanic crisis on the Azorean island of São Jorge, where he planned to travel shortly, considering that “there is no reason for insecurity”.

“When I spoke to him [the president of the Regional Government] today, he was still in São Jorge and I think very soon I will go to São Jorge as well,” Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa told journalists in Fátima.

The head of state said that “immediately, experts understand that there are no issues for alarm on the part of the population”.
