December 31 closures reversed
JM reports that the recommended walking routes, which were closed on December 31st, are now passable.
The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) closed six pedestrian routes that day (Vereda da Ilha, Vereda do Pico Ruivo, Caldeirão Verde Levada, Levada do Rei, and the route between Pico das Pedras and Queimadas), due to adverse weather conditions with the occurrence of very strong winds.
However, given the fact that they are located in areas subject to strong climatic pressure and consequent natural erosion, the IFCN warns of the precaution of walkers when carrying out them, advising them to walk safely, complying with all rules of conduct and safety.
