Statue of Mother Virgínia Brites takes prime position

New landmark in Santo António

JM reports that a statue of Mother Virgínia Brites has been placed in the roundabout of the parish of Santo António, in Funchal, noted as the birthplace of one Cristiano Ronaldo. The new roundabout has been gradually taking shape over the last few months at the end of the main road coming up into the municipality from the Rapida junction at Madalenas.

The unveiling ceremony of the plaque and the statue will take place next Monday, at 12:00 noon, in the rehabilitated roundabout of Santo António, to which the name of the nun, the last abbess Clarissa of the Monastery of Nossa Senhora das Mercês, in Funchal.

Mother Virgínia Brites da Paixão was born in Lombo dos Aguiares on October 24, 1860, and died on January 17, 1929. She died with a reputation for sanctity and her process is being studied by the Vatican, recalls the Diocese.
