President enjoys Madeira Classical Orchestra

JM reports that yesterday evening, the President of the Republic travelled across the city on foot from the official home of the Regional President, Quinta Vigia, at the top of Sta Catarina Park, along Avenida Infante to Praça do Povo to attend a concert by the Madeira Classical Orchestra. The Diario has a video of the occasion below.

This was another event integrated in the celebrations of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities.

The Madeira Classical Orchestra had Francisco Loreto as guest conductor and had the participation of the soloists Alberto Sousa (tenor) and Mariana Pimenta (soprano), the Ensemble Vocal – “Atlantic Nymphs” and some graduates of the Conservatory – Professional School

At his side, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Ferro Rodrigues, and the Prime Minister, António Costa. Several personalities attended the occasion including Irineu Barreto, the Republic’s Representative in Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues, the President of the Regional Assembly in Madeira, and Miguel Albuquerque, the Region’s President. 

The newspaper reports that many local entities together with the general public did not want to miss this cultural moment, held outdoors and helped by the good weather.
