Optimistic outlook from visiting President

JM reports that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of the Republic expressed several words of encouragement for Madeira upon arriving at the airport at approaching 11:00 pm last night. The Head of State said that the Region is going through a very good phase in the fight against the pandemic and believes that the transition from spring to summer will be a good surprise.

Marcelo talked positively about recovery and expects the tourism sector to improve quickly.

As for the agenda for this visit, the President said that in addition to the presentation of greetings and other meetings of a more political nature, he will also address issues related to the 10th of June. This year the Day of Portugal will be formally marked in Madeira which will have a “several days” program, promised the President.
