Madeira features on Russian TV

“Lives of Others”

JM reports that Madeira was the destination chosen for the most recent episode of the Russian travel program ‘The Lives of Others’, in a report made by the well-known TV presenter Zhanna Badoeva, which was released this Sunday on Youtube and Channel One Russia.

In a report of about 45 minutes, Zhanna Badoeva shows the island of Madeira, not so much in terms of tourism promotion, but to show different aspects of Madeira’s daily life, from birth to old age. The episode covers themes from the act of giving birth at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, through education in educational institutions, transport, forest police, Nini Andrade Silva’s atelier, the Madeira Wine business and banana production.

The recurring constraints at Madeira Airport, life after retirement and even the supposed silence in cases of adultery and domestic violence in Madeira were also topics addressed in this which was the 13th episode of the fifth season of the program broadcast on Youtube from ‘As Others ‘Lives with Zhanna Badoeva’, which has 423,000 subscribers, and on Russia’s Channel One.

After just six hours, the episode dedicated to Madeira with subtitles available in English already totalled close to 60 thousand views.

    • Don’t be a nationalistic fool. If you like we can talk about stereotypes… just tell me where you are from and i’ll be more than happy to apply the same mindset as you have an run your country and people into the ground…. does this really make the world into a better place?

  1. Where have you been, Jamie? There are lots of Russians already living in Madeira or with holiday homes there. In fact, on a jeep tour some years ago our driver/guide pointed out the Russian enclave in the hills and joked about the machine gun posts that guarded it!

  2. I posted a while back about a taxi driver commenting on a big lavish wedding we had passed.
    Apparently the bride was the daughter of an owner of a plush holiday
    home.
    The driver mentioned the person in question was a Mr Big and made his fortune through unscrupulous methods.
    Characters as such will move anywhere usually in the guise as legit business people.
    I doubt if Maderia can do much about it.
