João Pestana’s photographic work on display
The Diario reports that a retrospective exhibition of João Pestana’s photographic work was inaugurated yesterday afternoon at the Madeira Photography Museum /Atelier Vicente’s, which will later be displayed in Câmara de Lobos.
This is a temporary exhibition that will remain open to the public in Funchal, until July, and the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, has already instructed that it be moved later to Câmara de Lobos. “Once the exhibition [in Funchal] ends in July”, he suggested this afternoon that it “be transferred to the House of Culture of Câmara de Lobos”.
“Câmara de Lobos deserves” also for the “important tourist dimension” it represents in the regional context and for being part of the work left by the Madeiran photographer, recognized nationally and internationally, who at one point became the dean of art in Madeira.
Regarding the exhibition he visited yesterday, he highlighted the “very strong human and historical dimension” complemented by the “artistic dimension” shown in João Pestana’s photographs. Specifically with regard to Câmara de Lobos and the Old Town of Funchal, places very much photographed by João Pestana, “a full-body artist” who dedicated “his whole life to art”, he stressed.
In Albuquerque’s opinion, the temporary exhibition from tomorrow and until July on display at the Madeira Museum of Photography – Atelier Vicente’s “must be visited by those who like culture and those who like to know what was done during the 20th century in our land”.
