Cruise ship drifts past

Mein Schiff passes on the way to the Med.

JM reports that the German TUI Cruise ship Mein Schiff left Santa Cruz de Las Palmas and heads for the Strait of Gibraltar, passing within sight of Madeira.

The cruise ship is a well-known visitor to Madeira during “normal” times (photo) and it is strange to see it return to pass without stopping at the Port of Funchal, due to the restrictions in force that result from the pandemic of COVID-19.

A “Buy me a Beer” link has been added to the sidebar on the right of the blog. Any contributions are welcome, as the overheads are now such that the website is not covering its costs with all the additional expense involved with keeping it up and running after the recent attack!

  1. Óh…how I miss seeing these ships anchored in our port…and people waving handkerchiefs and crying. Crying and waving handkerchiefs…all black and white! Just kidding! That was back in 49, not may time!!
Agora o nosso querido presidente correu com essa malta toda, andam com os azeites…que a Madeira exige testes e mais testes…enfim! Pró próximo ano será melhor! Espero!!! I Hope!!

  2. They’ll be back but to guarantee their return the port needs to reduce its harbour fees to make Madeira more attractive. Also, they need to get on with the extension to the Molhe then the u usable quay becomes usable.

    • I totally agree with you!! But Madeira ports belong to the big boss SOUSAS!! They are greedy and they like expensive cars!! Besides, the government compensates their losses with financial aid from our taxes! It’s okay for them!!
