COVID-19: three more deaths

… but a record number of recovered cases

COVID-19: three more deaths 1

Fingers crossed! the blog may remain “up” today, in order that it can report the regrettable news that Madeira saw three more deaths announced yesterday. On a slightly positive note, the Institute of Health Administration IASAÚDE announced in their daily press release that there were a record number of 152 recovered cases.

There were 79 positive cases announced in the previous 24 hours – two imported cases, one from the Czech Republic and one from Switzerland, and 77 cases of local transmission.

This Sunday, there are 152 recovered cases, with the Region counting 3,950 recovered cases.

With the three deaths reported, the RAM has, to date, a total of 54 deaths associated with COVID-19. One of the three was an 88-year-old woman. No details on the other two (they were both 87, it was later announced, and suffered from other complications) .

At the moment, there are 1,799 active cases, of which 71 are imported cases and 1,728 are locally transmitted.

Regarding the isolation of these active cases, 61 people are hospitalized at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça (54 people in Multipurpose Units and 7 in the Intensive Care Unit dedicated to COVID-19) and 42 people are in isolation in a dedicated hotel unit, the rest remaining in own accommodation.

Three patients from the mainland (Lisbon and Tagus Valley) have been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit since the 30th.

In total, there are 260 new situations that are currently being studied by health authorities, which are related to contacts with positive cases, situations reported to the emergency telephone number or to the health authorities.

Porto Santo has just two cases

Porto Santo has just two active cases, and the Diario reports that the health delegate there as called for vistors arriving by sea to have a negative test, in the same way as is required at the airport.

A “Buy me a Beer” link has been added to the sidebar on the right of the blog. Any contributions are welcome, as the overheads are now such that the website is not covering its costs with all the additional expense involved with keeping it up and running after the recent attack!
