Downward trend slows a little
JM reports that in the last 24 hours there was a balance between new cases of COVID-19 and recoveries from the disease, contrary to the trend seen so far in February, which had been showing more recoveries than new infections.
Today there are 62 new positive cases to report, so Madeira now counts 6,861 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the regional territory. There are 62 cases of local transmission, most of which are already associated with positive case contacts.
Coincidentally, today there are also 62 more recovered cases to report, reaching an accumulated of 5,287 recovered cases. There have been 8,321 suspected cases, of which 1460 were not confirmed.
According to the daily bulletin issued by the Institute of Health Administration IASAÚDE, the Region accounts, to date, for a total of 63 deaths associated with COVID-19 (thankfully no more were reported yesterday). There are now 1,511 active cases, of which 30 are imported cases and 1,481 are locally transmitted.
49 hospitalised from COVID-19
Regarding the isolation of active cases, 49 people are hospitalised at the main Dr Nélio Mendonça hospital in Funchal (45 people in Multipurpose Units and 4 in the Intensive Care Unit dedicated to COVID-19 and 25 people are isolated in one dedicated hotel unit (presumably this is still the Pestana Bay Hotel on Praia Formosa?), the rest remaining in their own accommodation.
In total, there are 187 situations that are currently being considered by health authorities, these being related to travelers identified at the airport, contacts with positive cases or other situations reported to the SRS24 line or to SESARAM.Regarding the active surveillance of positive case contacts, 1623 people are being monitored by the health authorities of the various municipalities in Madeira and Porto Santo.
3958 people are also being monitored by the authorities, using the MadeiraSafe app.
Update February 22:
The good news is that today Madeira has 43 new cases of COVID-19 and 108 recovered. This clearly continues the downward trend recorded prior to yesterday.
Fifty-two people are currently hospitalized, four of whom are in Intensive Care.
Update February 23:
Madeira currently registers another 55 new cases of COVID-19, all of which are locally transmitted.
There is also a record of more than 96 recovered cases, with the Region currently accounting for 1,405 active cases, of which 28 are imported cases and 1,377 are from local transmission.
Update February 24:
Madeira today registers 74 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection in RAM. These are 2 imported cases (1 from Nepal and 1 from the Lisbon/Tagus valley region) and 72 cases of local transmission.
There are also 86 more cases recovered, with one death to report. The Region now counts, to date, a total of 64 deaths associated with COVID-19.
Update February 25:
Madeira registered 53 more new cases of COVID-19 infection today, all of which were locally transmitted, most of them already associated with positive case contacts. There are another 95 recovered patients, leaving currently 1,350 active cases, of which 25 are imported and 1,325 are locally transmitted.
Update February 26:
58 new cases of Sars-CoV-2 infection are reported in Madeira today, so the region now has had 7,144 confirmed cases of COVID-19. These are 2 cases imported from France and 56 cases of local transmission, most of them already associated with positive case contacts.
There are 62 more recovered cases reported with the Region now accounting for 5,734 cases recovered to date, and the total of 64 deaths associated with COVID-19 remains the same.
Update February 27:
This Saturday, Madeira reported 46 new positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, according to the daily report of the Regional Health Directorate.
In total, there are 151 situations that are currently under consideration by health authorities, these being related to travelers identified at the airport, contacts with positive cases, or other situations reported to the COVID-19 hotline and the various health authorities
Update February 28:
Today saw 48 new cases of COVID-19 infection reported in Madeira, so the Region now has had 7238 confirmed cases. These are 5 imported cases (2 from Poland, 2 from France, and 1 from the Lisbon/Tagus Valley region) and 43 cases of local transmission. The Regional Health Directorate also reported 78 more recovered cases.
