Increased action to combat COVID-19 in Madeira

As anticipated various new measures were announced this evening by the Regional government in their attempt to halt the progress of COVID-19 in the archipelago.

Thus, all commercial spaces will have to close from 6:00 pm and the curfew will be at 7:00 pm on weekdays, This will come into effect from midnight on the 13th.

The first announced by Regional president Miguel Albuquerque by teleconference is a ban on circulating on public roads on weekdays until January 31 between the hours of 7:00 pm and 5:00 am, instead of the old 11:00 pm start for “curfew lite” On weekends, the curfew will continue to take place between 6:00 pm and 5:00 am.

Until January 31st and during weekdays, only restaurants will be allowed to open until 10 pm, exclusively for the preparation of meals, for home delivery.

  1. Not really surprised but do feel so sorry for everyone on Madeira. They tried so hard early on to keep the virus away. Everyone across Europe and UK are suffering similarly. We cannot see our son or daughter. We can only go out for essential purposes or exercise. The vaccine in our doctors’ practice is being started tomorrow so husband and I should be vaccinated by mid February. Maybe we will be able to visit Madeira by September??
