JM reports that the Region today welcomes the Portuguese patrol boat NRP Figueira da Foz for another commission in the Maritime Zone of Madeira, where it will remain until the beginning of December.

According to the Portuguese Navy, during the mission, the ship will be engaged in several tasks essentially aimed at security functions and State authority at sea, garrisoning the standard naval device of the Navy in the Region.

The NRP Figueira da Foz is commanded by Captain-Lieutenant Neves Cabrita and has a garrison of 53 soldiers (14 officers, 9 sergeants and 30 soldiers). The patrol vessel 83 metres in length

This ship will replace the NRP Auriga that left Funchal port on yesterday, returning to the Lisbon naval base.

The mission of the Navy in the Region has as its main objective “to ensure the capacity to respond to maritime search and rescue situations, to contribute to the maritime patrol effort, to support regional civil protection agencies in situations of natural calamity or catastrophe. and cooperate with other State departments with competencies at sea”.
