Mystery cruise ship becomes 2nd to visit
JM reports that Disney Wonder, the “mystery cruise ship” first reported here two days ago arrived in Funchal this morning, photographed on a fine morning using a drone. The ship is docking “for technical reasons” and to refuel, with only crew and no passengers on board, but nonetheless has attracted a lot of attention.
The Disney Wonder is operated by Disney Cruise Line, being the second ship to join the Disney fleet on entering service in 1999. Wonder is of the same class as Disney Magic. The interior of Disney Wonder is decorated in the Art Nouveau style, in contrast to her sister ship, Disney Magic which is decorated in the Art Deco style. Both ships have 11 public decks, can accommodate 2,400 passengers in 875 staterooms, and have a “normal” crew of approximately 950.
Ironically this is a low-key debut, as the vessel has not visited Funchal previously. She arrives from Dover and will head on across the Atlantic to Florida. She becomes only the second cruise ship t visit since the port was closed at the start of the pandemic.
