Christmas decorations installed as usual
Jornal Madeira and FN both report on the progress made over the last few days in installing the usual Christmas lights throughout the centre of Funchal.
JM report today that the giant Christmas tree is already set up in People’s Square on the seafront. Not sure how many visitors will get to enjoy the spectacle this year, but you can’t criticise the tourist authorities for not making an effort. Most of the decorations will the same as for previous years, which should keep any expense down.
Hopefully everything is properly secured – it could be windy and wet 48 hours.

We were in Funchal last year for the switching on of the lights. We did so hope we would be there this year! Sadly not possible.
Saw on the webcam this morning that 2/3rds of the tree had been put up and the top section was waiting to be lifted into place. Can now see it has been done. The smaller tree by the Teleferico has also been erected.
Fingers crossed we get there on Dec 14th. We have had our flights cancelled and rebooked twice so hopefully third time lucky 🤞🤞
Hello, im from Madeira and live in the UK in Cheshire and my partner whos British is also leaving on the 14th December from Manchester airport, i follow him on the 26th and we both come back on the 8th January. We to had to cancel twice easter April 19th and again in May. We decided to leave it for April next year so we changed the dates. Our xmas and new year was already booked as we had booked it after we came back from our annual xmas away. Im like you im praying all will be well once the lockdown is lifted in early December, we really really need a break. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I having been travelling since the seventies but at present it is furthest from my priorities.
Great news, we look forward to seeing it, if we can make it, leaving booking to the last min.
We were due to come in March but it was cancelled. We are thinking of you and check on the webcams.
