Torches light up Machico

“Famous flares” celebrate the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament

Machico, where the torches were lit last night

The Diario reports on events last night in Machico where the “famous flares” lit up the slopes of the Machico valley, as part of the celebrations of the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament.

This year the tradition was a little different, due to the environment dominated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The municipality asked those who came to assist to respect the recommendations issued by the Regional Health Authority, maintaining social distancing and wearing a mask.

The secular tradition of Fachos reached the final stage of the RTP program ‘7 Wonders’, winning the regional qualification but failing to qualify for the national final. The Diario has a gallery of 21 photos here.
