60 cars to compete in the Madeira Wine Rally

The Rali Vinho da Madeira starts on Thursday with extra precautions added this year under strong security measures, due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The organisers of the Rali Vinho Madeira have already announced the official list of teams registered for the 2020 edition of what is the most important car race to be held in the Region,

As in previous years, competitors include drivers who are competing for European Rally Trohpy (ERT) points, and others who will just be in the race for the Madeira Championship, sponsored by Coral.

With a list of 60 entries, the champion of the last three editions of the Rali Vinho da Madeira (2019, 2018 and 2017) Alexandre Camacho and Pedro Calado will return as number 1 in this year’s edition of the competition, which will be held between August 6th and 8th. A total of 37 teams are on the ERT entry list and the remaining 23 are on the CMR list.

The Diario comments that the list of competitors includes the main players of the sport at national and regional level with a notable car fleet – 17 R5, 1 WRC and 2 Porsche vehicles stand out among many others.

Alexandre Camacho will be the driver to start the competition in a Citroën C3 R5. Other current champions with confirmed presence will be from Spain, José Maria Lopez in another Citroën C3 R5, Portugal, Armindo Araújo, and Azores, Luis Miguel Rego, both in Skoda Fabia R5 Evo. In the list stand out other drivers who have already won the classic Madeiran, Bruno Magalhães in Hyundai i20 R5, José Pedro Fontes in Citroën C3 R5, Vítor Sá with a Citroën DS3 R3T and Adruzilo Lopes in Peugeot 208 R2.

  1. Apologies – totally impossible to post this Wednesday morning as the attacks get more severe. Will keep checking back to see if the situation has improved. Clearly somebody knows WordPress, as the back-end is inoperable whilst the visitor interface remains visible, albeit very slow. One must assume therefore that somebody is trying to stop new posts …………
