Porto Santo beach - among the top ten

The Diario reports that Lonely Planet, which it describes as the largest publisher of travel guides in the world, has placed Porto Santo beach and the caves at São Vicente in the top ten natural wonders of Portugal.

The beach is the main reason tourists visit the Golden Island, which hopefully does not see any more positive tests for COVID-19 after the outbreak reported here yesterday.

“The sandy beach lasts for 7.5km with very few obstructions …. and has a wild air, especially in winter, when you can have everything for yourself”

Of the caves on the north coast the publication says:

“The biggest bet on the north coast is a two-in-one attraction in São Vincente … the first is to visit the 900,000-year-old lava caves … the second a visit to the Volcanism Centre – a great activity in rainy weather”
