Jersey connection resumed

11 direct TAP flights by the end of August.

TAP Jersey connection headline

JM lead today with the news that the national flag carrier, TAP, which is now effectively state-controlled, will resume direct connections between Jersey and Madeira

TAP will today resume their Funchal-Jersey route, guaranteeing 11 direct connections between the two islands by the end of August. The operation is ensured by an Embraer 190 aircraft, from Portugália, under the brand ‘TAP Express’.

The other story on the front page is that Porto Santo is calling the State to account: “Insularity costs are sovereignty costs and the Region must call the State to account.” The phrase, by local politician José Manuel Rodrigues, was echoed at the “Madeira 2020 Days”, yesterday, in a JM debate that highlighted the difficulties inherent in dual insularity and the need to acquire a new ship, a process that can last eight years and cost up to €100 million.

“This island cannot be treated as just another municipality”, says José Manuel Rodrigues. The Mayor of Porto Santo, Idalino Vasconcelos, considers that “transfers from the State Budget are small and unfair”.
