Madeira Assembly hosts conference

climate change conference posterThe Diario reports that next Monday, January 6th, at 6.30 pm, the Noble Hall of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira will host the conference ‘Climate Change: Where We Are, Where We Want to Go and How to Get There’, given by scientist Joana Portugal Pereira.

The lecture starts from the premise that “climate change is one of the main global challenges facing humanity today” and, in effect, “the Autonomous Region of Madeira, despite having a small contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, is a particularly vulnerable region and exposed to extreme weather events and rising sea levels”, highlights the conference synopsis.

Thus, this lecture will address the frontier of climate science knowledge, projections of impacts associated with climate change and greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies compatible with the objectives set in the Paris Agreement and national mitigation targets.

The conference will be chaired by the President of the Assembly, José Manuel Rodrigues. The Salão Nobre da Assembleia Legislativa regularly hosts conferences on topical issues – none more important than this one!
