Landslide closes levada walk

Levada Fajã Rodrigues closed for safety reasons

Levada Fajã RodriguesThe Diario reports that a landslide yesterday at Levada Fajã Rodrigues, in São Vicente, has led the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation to close this recommended walk.

According to Manuel Filipe, President of the Forestry Institute, ARM (the water company which manages the levada) have managed to clear the canal but the collapse effectively removed about 20 metres of the pathway in a dangerous area. “Therefore, for safety reasons, we have closed the route”, he explained, noting that Levada Fajã Rodrigues will only be reopened when all safety conditions have been met and after the walkway has been replaced.

WalkMe Guide Madeira has a good video of the walk below – just so you know what you’re missing!
