António Costa pledges support for the new hospital in Madeira
On the 30th of October, during the debate on the Government Program in the Assembly of the Republic, the Portuguese Prime Minister gave his support to the construction of five new hospitals in the country, including Funchal.
Responding to newcomer André Ventura, from the CHEGA party, on Health Commitments, António Costa said that, in terms of hospital units, the objective is “to achieve by the end of this legislature the five major hospitals that are being launched: the Oriental de Lisbon, Alentejo Central, Sintra Central, Seixal Central, and I also hope, Funchal’s new hospital”.
However, the prime minister did not disclose the terms of the financing, which is subject to a vigorous dispute between Lisbon and Funchal. Fairly ambitious plans, committing to four-year timescale!
