Madeira retains Michelin Stars

“Il Gallo d’Oro” and “William” keep Michelin stars

Michelin Guide 2020 where two Madeiran restaurants kept their starsBoth newspapers report on the publication of the Michelin Guide for the Iberian region which took place this last night at the Lope Theater de Vega in Seville before an audience of 500 guests. It is very much the same as before for Madeira, with both of the top two restaurants on the island maintaining their prestigious stars.

Il Gallo d’Oro, located in Funchal with chef Benoît Sinthon, maintains its two Michelin Stars. William, also in Funchal, with chefs Luís Pestana and Joachim Koerper, was also distinguished by the Michelin Guide in 2020, retaining their single star.

In total, Portugal the number of restaurants with two stars rose to seven and 20 establishments maintained one star. The Michelin Spain and Portugal 2020 marked the 110th anniversary of the launch of the ‘Iberian guide’. The guide awarded the first star to four Portuguese establishments and withdrew a star from three others.

Strange how a tyre company got round to publishing a restaurant guide? – apparently it started off as a source of general information for motorists, such as maps, tyre repair and replacement instructions, car mechanics listings, hotels, and petrol stations throughout France
