Funchal recognizes interpreter guides

The contribution of city guides recognized

Following up on the post about World Tourism Day yesterday, Councillor Madalena Nunes, who is responsible for tourism in the Funchal City Hall, marked the occasion by recognizing the work of the Interpreter Guides by awarding them with the Distinction for Touristic Merit, “for the work done to over the years, which greatly contributes to Funchal’s excellence as a tourist destination”. The event was held yesterday afternoon at the Noble Hall of Paços do Concelho.

Reported in the Journal, the distinction, granted for the first time by the Municipality of Funchal, is a way of recognizing and valuing people, entities or projects that contribute to the qualification of the destination “and is another product of our Municipal Tourism Strategy because we think that the Municipalities should have a leading role in this sector”.

Madalena Nunes then stressed the importance of the work of the interpreter guides, because “if tourism in Funchal and Madeira is associated with such high-quality standards, much is due to your work, and as such, the City Council decided to honour this class (that is) so special and publicly acknowledge all your commitment and professionalism”.

“Every day our city receives thousands of tourists, and if we are able to captivate them, if they really decide to come back, it is certainly thanks to your work, which requires good communication, emotion, rigour, and also a great preparation, therefore this distinction is absolutely justified” concluded the mayor. The Municipality of Funchal will award the Distinction for Tourist Merit every year on World Tourism Day.
