Monte Palace sees record visitors 1The Journal reports that the 1st of July was special for Monte Palace Madeira, which received a record number of visitors; seven thousand, with six thousand of these believed to be residents.

This is a number that had never been reached since its opening in 1991, with up to around five thousand people turning up during the holiday of July 1. It is a tradition at the Monte Palace Garden to admit all residents free of charge, as a way to celebrate the Day of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and the Madeiran Communities.

Occupying an area of ​​70,000 square meters, this is a space of almost obligatory visit for those who visit Madeira, and is also much sought after by the local population, according to the numbers verified on Monday.

With an abundant collection of exotic plants from the four corners of the world, the swans and ducks that populate the central lagoon, and the peacocks and chickens that circulate freely in the other areas of the Garden, which attract children.

The Monte Palace Museum also includes an exhibition space with three galleries. Two are occupied with sculpture, while another houses a collection of minerals from the four corners of the world.
